I believe our experience of the world we live in, as complex and layered as it is, manifests in a collectively created reality. Although we are reliant on global systems of exchange, the narrative behind everyday items becomes increasingly fractured and isolated. I hope to draw attention to sacrifices of personal responsibility in the name of economy and concessions of direct experience for efficiency. My practice documents my attempts to navigate these complex information systems. I rely on a displaced scientific/corporate language to redirect this conversation to aknowledge the magic/symbolic meanings of our interactions with our surroundings, and the literal meanings behind them that are often ignored. Frequently, this is not a neutral exchange; our experience has been
{researched -> designed -> proposed -> debated -> marketed -> sold}.
The work itself is part of this method of aggregation; the material a residual echo of previous phenomena. I am interested in the space between things, a location of interaction that allows for magic within mechanistic order. My work attempts to address the circuitry of power and investigate the game-like structures that direct systems of desire and control. |
